How to Choose

Starting your search for childcare can be overwhelming or you simply might not know where to start. Here are a few guidelines to use when searching for childcare. Another great resource is the "Choosing Child Care" guide to licensed and approved child care in Alberta.

Meet the Dayhome Educator

When you call Child Development Dayhomes looking for a Dayhome, we will refer you to several Dayhomes in your area that are able to care for your child. We require both the parent and child to meet the Dayhome Educator and see the Dayhome.

Meals and Snacks

Talk to the Dayhome Educator about what kind of snacks and lunches will be provided. Ask if they have a weekly or monthly menu you can see. If your child has specific dietary needs (food allergies, vegetarianism, gluten-free, etc.), ask if they are able to accommodate.

Positive Environment

Look for a bright welcoming home environment, a child-friendly atmosphere with children's artwork displayed, and positive interaction between the Dayhome Educator and your child.

Comfortable Fit

When interviewing Dayhome Educators, try to find someone with similar parenting styles and choose a Dayhome that you and your child are most comfortable in. If you are not sure, keep looking.

Transportation

In some cases, you may be looking for a Dayhome Educator who is able to drive your children to and from school. Discuss with the Dayhome Educator whether this is an option and if this would fit into their schedule.

Activities and Field Trips

Talk to the Dayhome Educator about daily indoor and outdoor activities, where children will spend most of their day and field trips.
