One of our dayhome educators observed the children’s interest in music. Programming for this, she collected and then offered a number of instruments from a variety of cultures. Some of the instruments provided included rain sticks, agogo bells, ankle bells, maracas, and den den drums. She introduced each item and worked with the children to develop a concert. They played with the instruments and watched a short children’s video on rhythm. Skills included learning about the diversity of instruments and how each are used. She will continue to create activities around music and showing them how children around the world use different instruments.
