Learning Story: Science Exploration

I set out jars of water, salt, oil, brown sugar, ice tea powder, green sand and spoons for mixing.

I asked the children “What dissolves in water?” They all answered “Everything!”

I set out jars of water, salt, oil, brown sugar, ice tea powder, green sand and spoons for mixing.

The children added the different elements to the jars and stirred them to see what dissolved.

They were smelling inside the jars. Easton said, “Mmmm smells like lemonade!”

While Fiona and Sarah were stirring, Easton was pouring the oil into the jar.

Then he poured the green sand into another jar.

The girls watched Easton stir.

Once they finished the experiment, Easton said, “Hey, the sand and oil aren’t melting but the salt, brown sugar and ice tea powder are!”
